Flemish painter (b. 1593, Antwerpen, d. 1678, Antwerpen). Flemish painter, tapestry designer and draughtsman. In the context of 17th-century Flemish art, he emerges as a somewhat complicated figure. His oeuvre, the fruit of a continual artistic development, is characterized by great stylistic versatility, to which the length of his career contributed. His religious, mythological and historical representations evolved from the rhetorical prolixity of the Baroque into a vernacular, sometimes almost caricatural, formal idiom. The lack of idealistic treatment in his work is undoubtedly the factor that most removed Jordaens's art from that of his great Flemish contemporaries Rubens and van Dyck. Jordaens's officially commissioned works included many paintings in which the sublimity of the subject-matter clashed with the vulgarity of some of his figures. Morten Muller
(13 February 1828 - 10 February 1911) was a Norwegian landscape painter. Morten Muller was born in Holmestrand, in Vestfold County, Norway. Morten Miller began his art studies with Adolph Tidemand and Hans Gude in Desseldorf, Germany from 1847 to 1848. From 1850 he was again a student at the Art Academy in Desseldorf, with Johann Wilhelm Schirmer as a teacher. From 1850-51, Muller painted with the Swedish landscape painter Marcus Larson in Stockholm. From 1866 to 1873, Morten Muller lived in Oslo, where he taught together with Knud Bergslien, first at the art school operated by Johan Fredrik Eckersberg. Later he continued working with Knud Bergslien at the Bergslien school of Art. From 1875, when Muller returned to Desseldorf, where he lived the rest of his life. Among his landscape motifs are fjords and pine forests. He is represented with several works in the National Gallery of Norway. In 1875, Morten Muller was appointed as a painter to the Swedish Royal Court. He was knighted into the Order of Vasa in 1869 and in 1874 became an honorary member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts in Stockholm.
Giovanni Santi
(c. 1435 - 1 August 1494) was an Italian painter and decorator, father of Raphael. He was born at Colbordolo in the Duchy of Urbino. He was a petty merchant for a time; he then studied under Piero della Francesca. He was influenced by Fiorenzo di Lorenzo, and seems to have been an assistant and friend of Melozzo da Forle. He was court painter to the Duke of Urbino and painted several altarpieces, two now in the Berlin Museum, a Madonna in the church of San Francesco in Urbino, one at Santa Croce on Fano, one in the National Gallery at London, and another in the gallery at Urbino; an Annunciation at the Brera in Milan; a resurrected Christ in the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest; and a Jerome in the Lateran. He died in Urbino.
